Posts of this type are not formally recognised for training but this is nevertheless provided for all Trust Fellows.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is one of the largest acute Trusts in the West Midlands. The Heart & Lung Centre which opened in 2004 has grown to become one of the highest volume cardiothoracic units in the region. We currently perform > 120 TAVI procedures per year, 1500 PCIs and >1000 surgical cases. There is an active heart valve programme with both mitral and aortic valve repairs performed routinely.
Our primary referral base is Black Country and parts of Wales. We provide a TAVI service to the wider West Midlands population.
Our TAVI service started in 2008 and has grown steadily. We currently offer TAVI by transfemoral, subclavian and direct aortic routes as well as occasional transapical cases. We have performed TAVI in Mitral procedures and will further expand to newer valve technologies in the near future.
The centre has active programmes in electrophysiology, device implantation, heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging.
We are looking for an individual with a strong grounding in general and interventional cardiology who would like to further sub-specialise in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). The post holder will be involved in every aspect of the provision of a TAVI service, including patient appraisal and preparation, Procedural development, post procedural care and follow up. In addition the successful candidate with be expected to take active part in on going and future research projects and to present at national and international meetings where appropriate.
The post holder will be offered the opportunity to undertake a Masters in Science (MSc) at the University of Wolverhampton, if required, during their tenure in this post and will enjoy mentorship, protected study leave, time for continuing professional development in their chosen subspecialty.
The appointment is for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance. There is currently no on call commitment with this post.
