IST Global Oil is the pre-eminent Oil Commodity Trading business that is built on supplying and trading the international and emerging markets around the world. IST Global Oil provides BP with a trading presence in the Global Crude, Products and LPG markets. The primary role is to sell BP’s equity crude oil, to trade on behalf of the associate companies and to generate entrepreneurial trading income. IST Global Oil also supports the refinery assets of BP to maximise their revenue.

The Operations team forms part of IST Global Oil Europe (GOE) and is a vital part of IST. Operations comprises of individual teams, namely: Cargo Assurance, Trading Operations, Shipping Coordination, Demurrage, Inventory Analyst and Performance & Development.

The Cargo assurance Team comprises of a number of individuals having one of five different job s, namely: CA Team Leader, CA Expert, CA Specialist, CA Trainee and CA Coordinator.

The Cargo Assurance team is responsible for minimising cargo losses, quality degradation, cargo Inspector HSE audits and other related issues. It also has a broader Global role in providing advice and assurance on the suitability and efficiency of the various transportation / storage / refining assets that IST GOE currently use or are likely to use in the future. This now includes Global LNG assets.

Reporting to the Cargo Assurance Team Leader the Cargo Assurance Quantity & Quality Specialist (CA Specialist) works closely with the trading benches and is responsible for advising traders and operators on best practises with respect to all aspects of cargo quantity and quality.
Key accountabilities
Role model BP Values and Behaviours.
Comply with BP policies, IST compliance policies and standards relevant to the role, including the Code of Conduct
Contribute to the delivery of the annual Cargo Assurance performance contract.
Develop & maintain healthy relationships with key stakeholders including Air BP and IT&S (to ensure systems and databases are fit for purpose and well maintained).
Give advice on all aspects of cargo quality and quantity such as tank cleaning, Crude Oil Washing, inspection and measurement.
Provide expediting services on board crude, product and gas tankers.
Support the Trading benches to pursue and refute claims against third party companies.
Use the framework of the Operational Management System (OMS) to audit 3rd party contractors (such as inspectors and laboratories) working under the control of Cargo Assurance to ensure they comply with the relevant BP and Industry standards.
Work closely with the Business Development Team on projects and new business where analytical and cargo assurance expertise is required.
Be an active participant in various quality networks and work with other companies to produce International Standards for Cargo Inspection under the auspices of the Energy Institute and American Petroleum Institute.
Provide guidance on sampling and testing of fixed LNG systems and gas correlation testing.
Solve quality and quantity problems.
Represent BP at Industry meetings.
Chair external committee meetings.
Essential Education
The candidate should have a certified background in chemistry (e.g. degree in Chemistry) or practical analytical experience or other equivalent education that gives an understanding of oil analysis for quality.
Essential experience and job requirements
Have practical background in oil analysis and testing procedures.
Have significant industry experience, covering technical, operational and commercial aspects of oil and gas cargoes.
Have a good sense of operational and commercial awareness.
Have a high degree of communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to influence at all levels – both within BP and with 3rd parties.
Have a proven track record as an accomplished business traveller, the successful candidate will need to work with other cultures for extended periods, and will have to demonstrate the ability to be both creative and innovative.
