Background to vacancy/ What is the purpose of the job? What do you need to achieve?
A new opportunity has arisen to lead the Operational Trainers and develop the approach at Castle Donington to identify and deliver operational training needs. This will involve taking a continuous improvement approach to the development of training and the experience of the trainees. You will become recognized as a subject matter expert on operations training and colleague development.
This role will require flexibility across shifts including working night shifts at peak times.
Your key accountabilities and measures will include:
Health and Safety
- Drive a culture of health and safety through the effective delivery of warehouse essentials safety and manual handling training. Ensure all collegues have accurate and current safety training records. Records to be maintained through the site training matrix
- Ensure key safety content is effectively identified and delivered through Colleague process training
- Role modelling safe behaviours and supporting Colleagues / Trainers to act and behave safely
Team Management
- Support engagement throughout the training delivery team, through the delivery of effective communication, briefings, appropriate use of email and feedback on site status
- Coach, lead, motivate and develop the training delivery team by role modelling the Business Values
- Manage attendance of colleagues within the training delivery team in line with M & S policy liaising with PPS to ensure consistency in delivery
- Deliver performance reviews in order to support capability development of the training delivery team
- Manage skill base within the training delivery team to ensure capacity and flexibility is maintained
- Manage shift based trainers to meet operational training needs, escalating issues and engaging with stakeholders to resolve them
- Ensure process training is delivered consistently to defined standards
Process Training
- Develop weekly new hire training and cross training schedules based on operations requirements and hiring plan. To include any additional process training requirements
- Develop weekly trainer / coach schedules to meet process training delivery requirements
- Maintain accurate training delivery records including skills matrix maintenance
- Provide shift based Learning subject matter expert capability to key stakeholders including operations teams
- Provide high quality L & D shift support including the identification and scheduling of training and cross training
- Ensure process training is delivered consistently to agreed standards across shifts. Provide SME support and coaching in order to build understanding and capability
- Through the evaluation of performance data, drive learner capability by providing appropriate learning interventions. To include root cause investigation to identify learning gaps and to inform continuous improvement
- Carry out effective evaluation of training delivery. To include observations feedback and coaching
- Participate in regular reviews of operational processes to identify Learning implications
- Develop fit for purpose learning materials based on the defined process
- Take a continuous improvement approach to lead the development of standard training materials, including process visuals, lesson plans and supporting materials
Project & Change
- Work with colleagues at all levels in order to provide cross functional support to include; Operations Excellence, Operations, and ICQA
- Contribute to L & D site projects including the development of training processes, training methodology and materials development
- Deliver shift based roll out of changes to training materials and methodology
- Provide L & D subject matter expert support to site change projects including systems and hardware (capacity) changes
Training Delivery
- Work with the agency colleague provider in order to effectively manage new hire induction events
- Work with key stakeholders to deliver non process training, including classroom based delivery
- Deliver direct hiring training including induction and initial training content
Technical skills/business skills required
- Knowledge of L & D process development and delivery
- Flexible approach with a desire to exceed targets
- Process knowledge gained within an Operations / Distribution environment
- Ability to act as an operations L & D subject matter expert
- Clear communications skills
- Strong team management skills
- IT application knowledge - MS office applications (basis level)
