Overall Department Direction
The SBU Quality departments’ main purpose is to provide assurance that company activities deliver submarines `fit to fight`.
The SQAE within the Submarine Support Quality Assurance team provides governance over Fleet Time Support Group activities through verification (both internally and externally including supply chain) and ongoing support to projects and the wider business. The role is to provide assurance that both key contractual and legal requirements are being met and identification and facilitation of improvement opportunities. Review and sign off of Nuclear and Refuel procedures.
Undertake product verification and, when applicable, signing of any associated documentation. Review of Approved Material test certificates (Babcock Supply or Supplier sourced) to ensure compliance with the drawings, QASOR, Specification and Scope of Work.
Undertake the raising, peer review, approval and appropriate archiving of Quality documentation for Submarine First Level / Safety Categorised / Vital feature materials or services.
Main Purpose of Role
To provide Submarine Support & Engineering Services to the business assisting with and providing guidance on quality related matters.
Manage QAE team as appropriate
Conduct internal and external audits
Participate in and facilitate improvement initiatives
Liaise with external bodies and customer representatives for the execution of their assessments
Manage and verify corrective actions raised as a result of both first, second and third party audits
Advise and work with projects on quality matters
Review and sign off of Nuclear and Refuel procedures

To have experience of managing Quality Assurance and Quality Control within the Engineering sector, including supply chain functions.
To have knowledge of change management and improvement programmes.
To have knowledge of MOD quality systems and requirements.
To understand nuclear site licence obligations and management arrangements.
To have knowledge in Engineering technology and materials.
Understanding of the Through Life documentation support requirements of the Royal Navy.
Experience in a First Level and product safety environment (including a good working knowledge of SSP25).
HNC, ONC, BTEC Level 3 Engineering or equivalent with significant experience in relevant engineering discipline.
Recognised professional qualification in quality management.
Certified Lead Auditor.
Office based with occasional travel and overnight stays.
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
This position is within the Engineering Services business unit as a grade 5 which has a salary of £34,085 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.
