Overall Department Direction
One in number Nuclear Standards Inspector (NSI) is required within the Nuclear Standards Branch. The Nuclear Standards Branch provides independent oversight of production and contractual work conducted on the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP).
Main Purpose of Role
To oversee work on the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) for Nuclear Submarines under Babcock contract control to ensure compliance with authorised documentation, and integrity of the plant. To carry out the day to day Reactor Compartment (RC) administration duties.
The NSI principal tasks and responsibilities are:
To assist the Assistant Nuclear Standards Managers, deputise for them as required and manage the shift activities in their absence.
Provide independent oversight of work on the NSRP, including refuel and defuel activities.
Control NSRP systems integrity and be the sole responsibility for fitting and removing dirt excluding bungs and plugs.
To be an inspection specialist in RVI and SCC inspections, using specialist techniques and the detailed reporting and recommendation of remedial action for defects found and across the site.
Control material, ensuring its suitability and compatibility for use on the NSRP.
Plant preservation and protection using corrosion control and swabbing processes and coordination of nuclear procedures.
A member of a team that covers 24/7, 365 days a year coverage to support the Forward Command Post during licensed site incidents.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
Academic: ONC in Engineering or equivalent Level 3 qualification
PCN in Liquid Penetration Inspections (Lvl 2)
CSWIP 3.0 Visual Weld Inspection
Local: Radiation Worker Course
Technical Representative for Sub-Contractors
Training will be provided.
ONC in Engineering or equivalent Level 3 qualification
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
This position is within the Submarines business unit as a grade 4 which has a salary of £30,995 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.
