The primary purpose of the role is to assess the competence of apprentices and adult trainees against the approved apprenticeship framework or standard and to be the apprentice’s reviewing manager.
Requirements of the Role:
To include but not limited to:
Arranging suitable work placements
Monitoring progress towards targets
Assessing on the job and knowledge competence
Liaison with colleges and awarding organisations
Apprentice disciplinary management
Apprentice attendance management
Assisting with the recruitment and selection of future apprentices.
Behaviours and Requirements of the Role:
Substantial experience in a marine engineering environment
Previous experience of mentoring apprentices and NVQ assessment would be an advantage but not essential.
Working knowledge of MS applications, ie Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
Excellent organisational and communication skills, together with the ability to work in a professional and confident manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a team, be flexible and have a background of working in team environments
Be able to work on own initiative
Motivated to deliver a professional service at all times
Qualifications & Requirements:
The successful candidate will have completed a recognised Fabrication, Welding, Sheet Metal or similar trade based apprenticeship in Marine Engineering.
Possess a sound understanding of the engineering practices and standards required in the marine industry.
Ideally a qualified NVQ assessor although training will be provided if required.
If not already held a NVQ L3 in Advice & Guidance will need to be completed as part of the training for this role.
A DBS (CRB) check is required for this post.
Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
This position is within the Devonport Operations business unit as a grade 4 which has a salary of £30,995 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.
