Background to vacancy/ What is the purpose of the job? What do you need to achieve?
Based at our Salford Quays HR Shared Service (HRSS) Centre this exciting opportunity to join M & S as a Data Protection Manager managing a small team accountable for employee data protection, security and data management. You will be responsible for ensuring that the HRSS operation and data handling practices are complaint with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and M & S Colleague Data Policy. This role will also be responsible for ongoing review of Colleague Data Policy ensuring it is compliant with key regulation and HR strategy. You will also Work with the central Data Governance function to raise awareness of data protection legislation and regulation and drive a culture of data security across HR. Key accountabilities include;
� Subject Matter Expert in the use of HR Data at M & S including escalation point and investigation lead for compliance issues and incident management of data breaches
� Maintain expert knowledge of current EU and UK data regulation, data integrity and security practices, ensuring business is kept up to date and any implications on data management processes reviewed and communicated
� Data governance including assessment of �as is� data management and protection, management of heatmap for HR data is delivered on time and establishing the baseline
� Deliver approach to data protection and security ensuring ongoing compliance and continuous improvement of HR Data Governance Risk Management Plan and addressing future maintenance / archiving of data
� Proactively work with the HR Management Team and the business to meet regulatory requirements
� Review and improve Data usage, data management and data architecture across all HR Systems; identifying where the data is mastered and document data architecture ensuring all processes where personal data is used are documented and mapped.
� Define and put in place ongoing processes and procedures to maintain quality and maturity of data governance within HR using a risk based approach
� Review audits of third party suppliers and their handling of our data assessing adherence to regulation, best practice and contractual obligations regarding data protection.
� Advise Stakeholders on legal requirements of the relevant Data Protection Acts (DPA) or equivalent privacy laws, forthcoming EU Privacy Regulation as well as raising awareness of data security, compliance and regulation
� Establish calendar of events to facilitate effective workload planning for timely delivery and optimal utilisation of resources including succession planning for team
� Line manage, coach and train Employees ensuring successful delivery of a multi skilled, high performing team
Technical skills/business skills required
� Experienced data protection professional with an analytical mindset and demonstrable experience in a privacy or data protection function of an international corporation, with experience of privacy law and practice
� Strong knowledge of Data Protection Legislation, GDPR and DPA rules including impact and risk assessments is essential
� Significant experience in data integrity management, data classification and handling and data auditing, with a good working knowledge of data security practices
� Good understanding of risk and the role of risk in privacy compliance
� Bachelor�s Degree or equivalent in business, IT or operations
� Understanding of HR processes and services and knowledge of HR emerging trends, technology and legislation
� Knowledge of the Shared Services sector
� Change or programme management experience is advantageous including working knowledge of project management and change management techniques
� System skills � HR Analytics and HR Information Systems, Use of MSS and ESS Tools and ideally PeopleSoft knowledge
